Last night, I watched the series finale of ER. I used to be a big fan of this show especially in it's early days on Must See TV after Friends and Seinfeld. But I admit that I stopped watching when Grey's Anatomy first came on air and that show became my new medical drama. But as the show finally closed its doors after 15 years, I realized that ER is the original Grey's Anatomy. The show was more about the characters and how they dealt with their own lives as well as the lives they were trying to save, much like Grey's Anatomy. But since most of the main characters on ER started leaving the show, I think many viewers stopped watching as they invested so much in these characters and didn't want to start over with the new ones that were coming on.There have been many episodes on ER that have riveted me and by 10:55pm, I was in tears because for one, the writing on the show was so good, and I could really feel what these characters were feeling and going through. I have to say my 2 favorite episodes of ER where the tears were flowing like a river was when Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards) passed away in Hawaii and when Dr. John Carter (Noah Wylie) and his wife lost their son to stillbirth, something I was much too familiar with.
I hope that Grey's Anatomy will continue to follow in ER's footsteps and captivate their audience, but with rumors of some of the actors leaving the show, it's not looking good and they could very well lose their fans, just as ER did.

OMG I sooo watched it, but like you, dropped off seasons ago and haven't watched much television since. However, I did watch the finale and my favourite story line was the old man who lost the love of his life of 72 years. It was the sweetest, most heart-wrenching moment, ever.
