Through Sickness and in Health

This past weekend, I suffered another major gallbladder attack. Not only was I rushed to Emergency but I ended up staying overnight at the hospital only coming home today. The biggest scare is that for those of you that don't already know, I'm pregnant. During all the blood work and ultrasounds that was taken in the ER, it was concluded that I had a stone stuck in my bile duct. I can't even begin to tell you how much pain I was in and how much pain medication I was taking the first 2 days in the hospital. As scared as I was for the baby, the doctors assured me it was safe and they wouldn't be giving me anything that would be harmful to the baby. So for the first 2 days, I was taking morphine....alot of it. From about 10am till 7pm, even the morphine wasn't taking the pain away. It would take the edge off for about half an hour but the pain would come back full force. I was told I had to stay in the hospital for the weekend and I would have an endoscopy set for Monday. This procedure is done where they put a tube down my throat with the help of an xray and they would either suck the stone or put the stone in my stomach so that I can just pass it. I would be put under general anesthetic. The anesthetic would put me to sleep but it would not make me unconscious. This is the best way that the baby would not be affected. Of course there would be some risk to the baby because of the xray and the anesthetic but at this point I felt like I had to take this chance because the pain was like giving birth and having a heart attack at the same time.

Luckily for me, my husband was in town for a short visit this weekend so he was able to stay with me the whole time in the hospital. This definitely helped my parents so that they didn't have to worry about the kids and worry about staying with me in the hospital. Having my husband with me was so comforting and I really saw him in a whole new light. When we read our vows, and we vowed through sickness and in health, Eric wasn't kidding. He was amazing through out the whole process tending to my every need and making sure I was comfortable. He literally didn't leave my side unless it was late at night because I wasn't allowed any overnight visitors but first thing in the morning, he would be back. He even managed to extend his trip so he could be with be through my procedure and my recovery. I didn't think it was possible to love my husband more as much as I do already. But I know that I love him more and more each day.

The procedure went well although I vaguely remembering waking up briefly during the procedure and that I was fighting with the nurses and the doctors. But I guess they had to inject me with more anesthesia and I was knocked out again. I stayed another night in the hospital, to make sure that I wouldn't be in anymore pain and today, I FINALLY came home! It was tough to be in the hospital for 4 nights but even though they were able to get to that stone, this doesn't completely clear me from my initial problem with my gallbladder. Because there are so many stones in there still, there is still a chance that another stone could come out. So I really need to be careful with my diet especially during the next 5 months because I don't think my body or this baby is ready for another attack. I just feel blessed that the baby and I are doing well and we survived this huge ordeal.
